Josef Loukota
Navy Veteran, Husband, Chef, History Buff, Berry Law Attorney
Josef Loukota is a passionate defender for Veterans. As a six-year veteran in the United States Navy—serving on the USS John C. Stennis and in Iraq to support Operation New Dawn—Joe knows how any Veteran can face trouble when applying for disability benefits. He continues to be dedicated to his fellow servicemen and women, who often face the next battle when they return home with an injury and apply for disability benefits. Though Joe is no longer on active duty, he still holds the Navy core values close to his heart, fighting for his clients the same way he defended his country—with honor, courage, and commitment.
Joe knows that it can be difficult for non-combat Veterans to prove a connection between their disability and their service in the military, at least when they work alone. His experience as a non-combat Veteran gives him special insight into how his clients’ injuries can be service-connected, and he works diligently to prove this connection to the Veterans Affairs system and get his clients their much-deserved benefits. His deep knowledge of Veterans’ lives and resolute commitment for their wellbeing has saved many of our country’s heroes from living without the benefits they earned. For Joe, it’s just another way to keep serving.

A High Performer
In addition to being a formidable attorney, Joe’s also been recognized as an outstanding serviceman. He’s been awarded an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist insignia, two Navy Achievement Medals, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal. He’s also proven himself a dedicated learner and student, having received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award, which is given only to the highest-performing student in each law school class. Joe is dedicated to excellence in everything he does; today, he serves each of his clients with that same respect and honor.
Joe’s love of law was borne in high school, where he became fascinated with how law worked and how few issues directly line up with how the law is written. He learned that there’s always an argument to make for any individual situation. Joe still uses this knowledge to help his Veteran clients, many of whom are on their last thread of hope after years battling the VA system. No matter how difficult the battle has been, Joe knows there’s always a way to victory.
Getting Off the Beaten Path
Maybe it’s thanks to his Navy background—or maybe it’s just in his blood—but Joe has a bit of an adventurous side. He and his wife enjoy traveling to new places and seeking out hidden troves that are off the beaten path. He’s energized by new experiences and often experiments cooking new dishes and trying different cuisines. Some say he’s got a bit of a magic touch in the kitchen—mysteriously, he avows that he can cook Minute Rice in less than a minute. When he’s not traveling or performing such impossible feats in the kitchen, Joe can be found at home with his nose in a book, reading more about medieval history or Veterans law. In whatever he does, Joe loves to be creative and learn new ways to make something better—just like he does for his clients at Berry Law.
