Emma Shinn is a Marine Corps Veteran who dedicated over 31 years to service as a Marine, transitioning from an enlisted anti-armor platoon sergeant to a judge advocate, earning the rank of Major before retiring in 2026. Emma’s transition to Berry Law was born from her own experience as a client. As she approached retirement, she sought the firm’s help to navigate the VA claims process. Impressed by the team’s work ethic, attention to detail, and passion, she realized she had found her next mission.
She chose to join Berry Law over firms across the nation because of their demonstrated competency and team culture, allowing her to merge her decades of experience representing servicemembers in courts-martial with a new calling: ensuring Veterans receive the benefits they earned and deserve.
Emma is licensed to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and in the states of Texas and Colorado. She leverages a high-stakes litigation background to provide aggressive advocacy for Veterans navigating the complex and often stressful VA disability system.
Emma’s commitment to justice is rooted in over three decades of firsthand experience within the military justice and administrative systems. Her extensive military career includes combat deployments to Fallujah, Iraq, during Operation Phantom Fury, and operational tours spanning four continents—from Okinawa, Japan, to the Pentagon. Having served in both the enlisted and officer ranks, she possesses a rare “boots-on-the-ground” perspective that fosters a deep connection with her clients. She understands the physical and mental tolls of service because she has lived them.
Emma holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Texas A&M University and earned her Juris Doctor from the Texas Tech University School of Law. She further specialized her legal expertise by obtaining an LL.M. in Military Law from The U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center & School.
