Jamie Rasmussen

Veterans Disability Attorney

Jamie Rasmussen obtained her B.A. in history from Washington University in St. Louis in 2003, her J.D., from Michigan State University College of Law in 2007, and her M.S. in information science and learning technology from University of Missouri in 2019. Her past legal experience includes appellate advocacy through positions as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri and as a law clerk with the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District. She also developed familiarity with disability law when she worked at Social Security Administration in a number of different roles.

In her spare time, Jamie enjoys sailing and writing. She is a certified U.S. Sailing keelboat instructor and during the summer can be found teaching lessons many weekends on Fellows Lake near her home in Springfield, Missouri. Her writing focuses on law, history, and the intersection between the two. Her publications include The Missouri State Penitentiary: 170 Years Inside “The Walls” (University of Missouri Press 2012), “Horseless Carriages with Buggy-Whip Holders: The Failure of Legal Citation Reform in the 1990s,” in the Law Library Journal (2018), “A History of the Missouri Court of Appeals: The Role of Regional Conflicts in Shaping Intermediate Appellate Court Structure,” in the Journal of Appellate Practice and Process (2016), “A Proposed Framework for Answering the Lafler Question,” in Criminal Law Practitioner (2013), and “U.S. Air Force Academy” in The Encyclopedia of Women in the American West (Sage Publications 2003).

Her family’s history of military service drew her to Berry Law. Jamie grew up in an Army family, and she attended the Air Force Academy, but had to leave for medical reasons before commissioning. She also has several uncles who served in both the Army and the Navy. These experiences help her understand both the challenges our clients face and the pride they continue to feel.
