Local Veterans Donate Artwork to New VA Clinic in Papillion

In Papillion, Nebraska, the newly opened Sarpy County VA Clinic is honoring the veterans it serves by showcasing artwork created and donated by local veteran artists. This unique initiative brings a personal and heartfelt touch to the clinic, reflecting the stories and creativity of those who have served.

A Corridor of Creativity

The walls of the clinic’s patient care center feature a stunning display of artwork, each piece crafted by veterans who receive care in the region. Among the contributors is Karen Silverstrand, a veteran artist with two pieces on display. For her, having her art showcased in the clinic is a profound honor.

“It’s great, and I’m excited that this is something that has been blessed to me that I’ve been able to do,” Silverstrand shared. “It is hard to put into words how happy and elated I am.”

Art That Uplifts and Inspires

When creating her artwork, Silverstrand aimed to evoke happiness and calmness for those viewing her pieces. “I thought what gave me a calming and happy effect was my grandparents, and I wanted to make that into something that other people would feel the same way,” she explained.

The thoughtfulness behind each piece resonates throughout the clinic, creating a space that is welcoming and uplifting for patients and visitors alike.

Representing the Veteran Community

Crystal Deluca, clinical director at the Sarpy County VA Clinic, emphasized the importance of incorporating veteran artwork into the design of the facility. “That was one of the main focuses of this clinic—how to best represent them—and we couldn’t think of a better way to decorate it than to use their artwork,” Deluca said.

The artwork is prominently displayed in the corridors of the patient care center, ensuring that the contributions of veteran artists are appreciated by everyone who visits the clinic.

A Celebration of Service and Talent

The Sarpy County VA Clinic’s decision to feature veteran-created art highlights the talent, resilience, and spirit of the veteran community. By incorporating their work into the fabric of the facility, the clinic not only provides essential care but also celebrates the individuals it serves in a meaningful way.
