In an emotional gathering, over 100 Vietnam veterans reunited at the Vietnam Veterans Reunion in Nebraska to visit the newly completed memorial honoring those who served and sacrificed in the Vietnam War. For many attendees, this was their first time seeing the memorial, making it a powerful and moving experience.
A Place of Reflection and Brotherhood
For Vietnam veteran Terrence Schecher, seeing the memorial was overwhelming. “It’s a great place, a great experience to see all our brothers on the wall there,” he shared. Fellow veteran Jerry Bolkmer also felt deeply moved, calling the experience “breathtaking.” Veterans like Jerry Yeazell traveled from as far as South Dakota to attend the Vietnam Veterans Reunion in Nebraska and share this reflective moment with others who understand the Vietnam experience.
Support from the Community
Community members joined the veterans, bringing flags and signs to show their appreciation. Doug Nading, who was adopted from Vietnam, attended to express his gratitude. “I wanted them to know that someone they were fighting for was able to get out and make a decent life in a free country,” he shared, offering a poignant reminder of the impact these veterans have had.
