Military Service by our Team
Having the ability to go talk to a fellow veteran that will be able to represent me and has been where I’ve been – has literally walked the streets in Iraq that I walked – and now is able to convey the message that I need to convey, on my behalf, is critical.

Army VeteranWhat We Do
Berry Law is America’s Veterans Law Firm. As a team full of Veterans, we help fellow Veterans appeal unfavorable rating decisions from the VA to get all the disability compensation they earned. We’ve helped Veterans with appeals covering all body parts and mental conditions, with an emphasis on:
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Individual Unemployability (TDIU)
- Mental Health Conditions
- Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI)
- Agent Orange Exposure
- Gulf War Syndrome
- Sleep Disorders
- Back Injuries
We provide Veterans the legal firepower they need to win at every stage of the VA claims process. We continue appealing until we win, and have even fought side-by-side with some clients for over 15 years to ensure they get the results they deserve.
We use case law, medical research, official records, and legal tactics to get the VA to understand the extent and impact of Veterans’ disabilities, and fight for the correct effective date so that the Veteran receives the compensation they should have already received.
Why We Do It
We view our mission as a natural extension of helping our brothers and sisters in arms. Founded in 1965 by Vietnam Veteran John Stevens Berry, Sr., the firm originally focused on criminal defense. However, Berry noticed that many of the criminal charges his fellow Veterans faced were related to struggles with untreated PTSD. To help address the root cause of their issues, he began representing them in their fight for VA disability compensation, frequently on a pro bono basis.

Berry recognized the scale of the problem and committed to developing the best Veterans disability appeals practice in the country. The firm is now run by his son, John S. Berry, Jr., an Army Veteran who deployed to Bosnia and Iraq. John has made it his personal mission to help as many Veterans as possible, both through the courts and through other charitable endeavors.
Veterans make up over 30% of Berry Law’s staff, which also features military spouses and children of Veterans. Our attorneys are Veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, and the company has been recognized by the Department of Labor with the HIRE Vets Platinum Medallion, the highest award bestowed for hiring and retaining Veteran employees. We aren’t just another legal team. We are your former squad leaders, medics, shipmates, company commanders, and crew members.
What We Have Helped Veterans Accomplish
We are proud to have helped thousands of Veterans in their fight for increased disability benefits. In the past decade, we helped Veterans recover over $160 million in backpay awards in addition to regular monthly payments.

Not Just Another Law Firm
Our mission to help Veterans extends beyond our Veterans disability practice. We are involved in dozens of organizations and charitable efforts to support Veterans. Some of these include:
Military Family Scholarship – An annual $5,000 scholarship awarded to a Veteran or the son or daughter of a Veteran to further their education.
Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year – An annual award given to a Veteran owned small business that has been a pillar of their community and supports Veterans.
Reward a Veteran Award – A yearly cash award given to a Veteran, Guardsman, or Reservist who continues to serve their community out of uniform.
Veterans Day Dining Out – A yearly event that brings together Veterans and community leaders to celebrate the Veterans in our communities and to raise money for charities that serve Veterans and their families.

Army Veteran, Berry Law CEO I Know What it Means to
Go Through the VA Process
Back in 1998 when I went through Army Ranger School, I fell of the side of a mountain and injured my shoulder. Once I returned from my deployment to Iraq, I was encouraged to go to the VA. There was documentation of my shoulder injury and I thought it would be a quick and easy process. I ended up going to the VA and was denied service connection because they thought my injury was related to stress. That’s when I learned firsthand that Veterans don’t get proper treatment at the VA. At the time, I had represented a lot of Veterans, but I didn’t want to go to the VA myself. I didn’t think I had time to go to the VA. My father, a Vietnam Veteran who was exposed to Agent Orange, reminded me that to be a leader you must lead by example. To lead by example, I needed to know what all other Veterans were going through with the VA. I got the correct disability rating for my injury, and I learned a lot about the process. I know what it means to go through the process, to file the forms, and to get a rating decision that doesn’t adequately account for your injuries.
Let us help you get the VA Disability Benefits you deserve.
