Appealing a Rating Decision in San Antonio

The different appeal routes are now known as appeal lanes, which were implemented in 2019 after the passing of the VA Appeals Modernization Act (AMA).

The AMA gives Veterans multiple different lanes to appeal their decision through. The Veteran can appeal through the Higher-Level Review Lane, the Supplemental Claim Lane, or Appeal to the Board of Veterans Appeals.

• Higher Level Review – A Veteran can use this lane to appeal a decision if they wish to have a more senior level VA claims adjudicator review their claim. However, you cannot submit any additional evidence for your appeal.
• Supplemental Claim Lane – In this lane, a Veteran is entitled to submit “new and relevant evidence” in support of their claim.
• Appeal to the BVA – Veterans appealing to the board have three options. They can submit additional evidence, ask for a direct review, or ask for a hearing in front of a Veterans Law judge.
