On September 11th, a day of remembrance and reflection, golfers in Omaha came together for a cause greater than the game. Lutheran Family Services held a golf tournament at Iron Horse Golf Course that was more than just a day on the links – it’s a powerful demonstration of community support for our military Veterans and their families.
The event held special significance as it honored Corporal Daegan Page, a fallen Marine, while raising funds for Lutheran Family Services’ military programs. The Corporal Daegan Page Foundation stepped up as the primary sponsor, embodying the spirit of service that Page represented.
Jared Jensen, a reserve in the Marine Corps, spoke about the personal importance of participating.
“Being a Marine officer, it meant a lot to me to want to be involved somehow.”
Jensen highlighted the added significance of holding the event on 9/11, noting that for service members, the day carries extra weight and motivation to give back.
The impact of this tournament is substantial. Last year, it raised over $100,000 to support military services throughout Nebraska. These funds enable Lutheran Family Services, one of the state’s largest nonprofits, to maintain and expand its vital programs for Veterans and their families for an entire year.
As we reflect on the sacrifices made by service members like Corporal Page, events like this remind us of the ongoing need to support those who have served. Through the simple act of playing golf, this community is making a real difference in the lives of Veterans across Nebraska.
In the words of KMTV 3 News Now neighborhood reporter Greta Goede, this is truly “Mission Service” in action.
