Lincoln, NE – September 20, 2024 – On September 19, 2024, the U.S. Senate passed the Veterans Benefits Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act, providing $3 billion in emergency funding to safeguard Veterans’ compensation, pensions, and readjustment benefits. This critical legislation addresses a budget shortfall caused by the surge in claims following the enactment of the PACT Act, which allows Veterans exposed to toxins to seek benefits. The bill now awaits the President’s signature.
The shortfall, estimated at $15 billion for FY2024-2025, would have affected over 7 million Veterans and their survivors. The additional funding ensures that benefits will be paid on time, preventing disruptions in the support systems that Veterans rely on. Approximately 740,000 Veterans have enrolled in VA health care since the passage of the PACT Act, marking a 33% increase in claims compared to the previous two years.
Berry Law, a leader in Veterans disability law, applauds this move as a necessary step in supporting those who have served. With the passage of this act, more Veterans exposed to toxins can continue to pursue their claims for compensation.
