Nebraska’s 400: A Documentary Honoring Fallen Vietnam Veterans

Nebraska’s 400: A Documentary Honoring Fallen Vietnam Veterans

At the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a new documentary titled Nebraska’s 400 is set to debut, telling the story of the 400 Nebraskans who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. Through the voices of Veterans and community members, this film captures the journey of making the memorial a reality and honors these heroes for generations to come.

A Tribute to Nebraska’s Vietnam Veterans

Created by writer and director Miles Landaw, Nebraska’s 400 offers a deeply personal look into the stories behind the names on the memorial’s walls. The 24-minute short film follows Veterans George Abbott and Tom Brown, the founders of the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans Foundation, who worked to bring the memorial to life.

“We wanted to leave a mark saying this is an important part of history,” said one of the film’s subjects, emphasizing the importance of remembering these Nebraskans.

A Personal Connection to History

Lisa Jorgensen, Senior Director of Community Initiatives at Bellevue University, hopes the documentary serves as a reminder of the impact of the Vietnam War and the sacrifices made by those who served.

“We have to make sure that they’re recognized, they’re thanked, and they’re appreciated,” Jorgensen shared.

Landaw also wants the film to bring a more human perspective to the lives lost.

“You hear about people who died in wars, but rarely do you get to connect with them in their eyes,” he explained.

A Must-See at the Omaha Film Festival

Nebraska’s 400 will make its official debut at the Omaha Film Festival on March 13, 2025. The filmmakers and Veterans involved hope the documentary will encourage more people to visit the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans Memorial, reflect on the lives honored there, and recognize the importance of keeping their memories alive.
