This December, Wreaths Across America Omaha returns to the Omaha National Cemetery to honor our nation’s heroes. Mary Blodgett, who brought this heartfelt tradition to Omaha, is marking her 20th year organizing the event. It’s a time to reflect, remember, and support those who served our country.
When the Omaha National Cemetery opened in 2016, only 250 wreaths were placed on veterans’ graves. This number grew to 3,200 two years ago and will surpass 4,200 wreaths this year. Wreaths Across America Omaha National Cemetery continues to expand, offering a powerful tribute to those who fought for our freedoms.
This year introduces a new Family Day on December 12th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., allowing families to lay wreaths on their loved ones’ graves in a private and personal moment. No registration is required—families can simply arrive, and wreaths will be provided.
Mary Blodgett shared, “We need to respect the fact that families want to lay the wreath on their loved ones’ gravesites themselves.”
The main Wreaths Across America Omaha National Cemetery ceremony happens on Saturday, December 14th, at 11 a.m. Volunteers will lay the remaining wreaths, pre-staged for a smoother process. This community effort makes the tribute possible and brings everyone together.
Each wreath is funded by donations. With 500 to 600 burials at the cemetery annually, community contributions are essential. To support the mission, visit our Veterans Disability Benefits page or the 3 News Now article for donation links.
For 20 years, Mary Blodgett has been the driving force behind Wreaths Across America Omaha National Cemetery, ensuring veterans are honored and remembered. The event continues to grow, with each wreath serving as a symbol of gratitude and respect for our heroes.
Join the tradition this December by volunteering, attending Family Day, or supporting through donations. Together, we can ensure every veteran’s sacrifice is honored.
