The Brad Ashford Omaha VA clinic dedication celebrates the former congressman’s pivotal role in passing the CHIP IN for Vets Act. This legislation enabled the VA to utilize both public and private funds to construct the new ambulatory clinic, which now serves Veterans from Omaha, Nebraska, and western Iowa. 

A Dedication Ceremony 

During the dedication, Ashford’s wife Ann, family, former staffers, and current VA employees gathered to honor his legacy. Congressman Don Bacon, a friend and former political opponent, praised Ashford’s dedication to Veterans’ care, stating, “Brad Ashford was a champion for the VA, he helped put in this ambulatory clinic that is absolutely beautiful.”

When Bacon entered Congress, Republican leadership offered to kill the bill Ashford had championed, allowing Bacon to take credit. Bacon declined, emphasizing, “That would have felt good, but it wouldn’t have been right. To me, that’s the ugly part of politics. He worked hard on it and he deserved it.”
