Why Does Berry Law Firm Help Veterans Appeal Disability Claims?

At Berry Law Firm, we represent veterans because we’re proud to protect the rights of those who have protected our constitutional rights. As lawyers, we support and defend the constitution of the United States in the courtroom, but it’s the veterans who protected the constitution of the United States overseas. Veterans are responsible for our freedoms today, for our freedom to practice law.

Berry Law Firm was founded in 1965 by John Stevens Berry Sr., a three-tour Vietnam Veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star. During his service, John transferred from Infantry to JAG Corps and worked as chief defense counsel for Vietnam’s largest court martial jurisdiction. This role took him throughout Vietnam protecting the rights of service members. In 1969, he successfully defended five Green Berets when they were charged with murder of a double agent. This is one of many experiences leading him to defend veterans when he returned to the United States.

Unfortunately, the United States struggles with its treatment of veterans when they return home from overseas. According to the Center for Military Health Policy Research, at least 20% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have PTSD and/or Depression. In January 2014, communities across America identified 49,933 homeless veterans during point-in-time counts, which represents 8.6% of the total homeless population. Of the homeless veteran population, at least 54% have mental and/or physical disabilities. Many of these veterans should have received treatment and disability compensation from the VA. Some of them sought help from the VA but were denied financial or medical assistance.

We’re very fortunate to work with veterans and we’re fortunate to work with clients who understand where we come from. Many of our employees are veterans, and there is a sense of duty that we felt in the military that we still feel today when representing our clients. We’re doing something important for people who matter.

We continue the fight for veterans’ rights today, representing thousands of veterans struggling with the VA throughout the country. Many of our attorneys and staff come from a military background and are no stranger to the obstacles standing in front of those dealing with the VA. More and more, injured and disabled veterans are pushed aside or denied by a disorganized and understaffed organization. If you are appealing a claim with the VA, we may be able to help reach the best possible outcome for you and your family. Contact us today.
